Al-Nara means "she who is a flame" in Arabic, a suitable name for our sauna, nestled within the grounds of The Old Primary school.
The school itself crosses the Athena & Appolo Ley line, an alignment connecting sacred sites in the middle east to sacred sites in Cornwall, and is a sanctuary space for immersive studies.
Al-Nara is one of three lovingly created immersive spaces provided on the grounds, and has become a refuge from the demands of life, offering a quiet, safe and sacred space open to community.
Our sauna is open to all in the community! In the spirit of sustainability, we kindly ask you to bring your own firewood to contribute to the warmth. Join our WhatsApp group below to be alerted when the sauna's fired up and ready for your relaxation.
Gather your group and unwind in our rejuvenating sauna, comfortably accommodating up to 10-12 people. To enquire about a private group session, please follow the link below to let us know when you are planning to visit and the number of people there will be in your group.
We always recommend checking with a knowledgeable medical professional first before you expose your body to new stressors, such as heat and cold in alternation, especially if you have a health conditions such as fluctuations in blood pressure.
Our sauna is open for community, we only ask that you bring your own wood for the log burner. There is a voluntary contribution owl bank outside the sauna for you to leave any monetary donation to endorse and support the project. We use all contributions to maintain and fire the sauna for free for community.
For new sauna users, spending 10-15 minutes per round with cool-downs in between. A cool down can be stepping outside for fresh air and a small sip of water, or a cold plunge if you are seasoned wild water immerser. Consider 2-3 rounds with cold plunges in between to maximize health benefits.
Based on research from metabolic scientist Susanna Søberg, 11 minutes or more of cold exposure and 57 minutes or more of sauna bathing per week gives you the most benefits.
